Class Description:

In this class you will learn how to add a plate quilt applique onto a piece of clothing or accessory of your choice. A plate quilt is fan or wedge-shaped fabric blades pieced together into a circular wheel. In the class we will be making one circular wheel but I will provide the pattern pieces so when you leave you will have the knowledge to make more wheels on your own!

How it works:
1. Bring in a clothing item or accessory you would like to add the plate quilt applique onto. Some great options are denim jackets, sweatshirts, tote bags or any other pieces of clothing that don't have a lot of stretch to it. The plate quilt we will be making will measure approximately 6"x6" when finished. Please bring an item or accessory that will work well with that size.
2. You will choose from provided fabric options to create a colorful plate quilt. Once your fabric pieces are chosen we will iron them onto your clothing item or accessory.
3. To secure the plate quilt in place we will hand-embroider the edges of the fabric. I will provide everything you need including embroidery floss, needle and an embroidery hoop to use during the class. This process is great for beginners, even if you have no prior sewing experience!
4. If you'd like to create more plate quilts on your own I will bring in the pattern piece for you to trace onto a piece of cardstock. You will have all of the knowledge to make future plate quilts on your own!

Time: 6:00-7:30
Ticket Cost: $35

Class Description:

Join Jennifer from Thread Honey to up-cycle an item from your closet!

At the workshop you will be walked through the process of creating a floral applique on clothing with fabric and leave with a new statement piece.

This class requires you to bring in the clothing piece that you want to applique onto (see notes below) which means every item created at the class will be totally unique! This is a beginner level workshop, designed for both people who have never held a needle before or people with prior embroidery experience!

At the end of the class you will have a “brand new” item in your wardrobe! After learning how easy it is to make old items new again with fabric and embroidery you can use these skills to help create a more sustainable closet.

The ticket includes:
- Applique Fabric Pieces
- Embroidery Floss
- Embroidery Needle
- Embroidery Hoop

Please Note:
Students will need to provide their own clothing item to work with. When choosing your item there are two main things you want to look for. The first is that you want to work with something that does not have a lot of stretch to it. If the fabric of your item has a lot of stretch to it then it becomes harder to stitch and your embroidery might end up puckering. The second thing to look for when choosing an item is that the fabric you work with is not very thin. If the fabric is thin it will not hold up well to applique work.

Some great examples for items to stitch on are canvas tote bags, bandanas, denim, button-up shirts, and sweatshirts.
